This program offers training in the unique consultation skills required to integrate client-centered counseling with astrological expertise. This allows us to offer a dynamic, transformational, and truly professional astrology consultation. For intermediate students and professional astrologers.
We will explore how to hold space to create a supportive environment, plus all of the counseling basics of clear communication skills, developing rapport, and balancing between engaging the client in dialog and “giving” the reading. We believe powerful consultations require mindfulness, deepened awareness and ongoing self-examination. Rather than just learn the basics of empathic counseling language, we will work to become truly empathic and self-aware so that these skills flow naturally from our own evolved perspectives.
As we reflect on our own issues that influence our professional work as consulting astrologers, we will delve into common challenges related to ethics, boundaries, diversity and inclusion, cross-cultural issues, and the unconscious effect of language, personal beliefs, and philosophies.
NOTE: This is more of a meeting/classroom format than an anonymous webinar. We ask that you have decent-speed internet, so you can be on video to participate in class. You will be placed in breakout rooms to practice the skills you are learning. It is not essential that you have professional astrology experience, but it is necessary that you know enough about chart synthesis to do a simple short reading for another person with a little time to prepare. This training is a step towards OPA certification.

Kay Taylor is currently OPA's President and offers a compassionate and transformational view of astrology, weaving together a unique integration of evolutionary astrology, intuitive mastery, and the empathic spiritual psychology of psychosynthesis. Kay is ISAR CAP and NCGR Level II certified, and is an ISAR Consulting Skills trainer. Kay wrote for Astrology.com for many years, and a chapter for the OPA book “The Professional Astrologer”. Her book “Soul Path Way” was published in 2016. Kay resides in the SF Bay area and has maintained a thriving full-time practice for over 35 years.
Magali Morales, MSW, is a Mexican-Guatemalan evolutionary astrologer, spiritual counselor, and shamanic practitioner. In her earlier career, Magali worked as a trauma-focused family therapist for 15 years and was a founding member of the Trauma Healing Project. Magali is the Vice President of the OPA Board of Directors and representative for Ethics and International Satellites. Magali resides in the Redwood Forest in the Central California coast, offering astrology-informed counseling and shamanic healing in English and Spanish.
